from 115 reviewsThere are a lot of good things about this book, but first let me say yay to no romance. It's sadly difficult to find books now days with female leads that don't have the main heroin gushing over some guy.
With that said I love the main characters and the magic system so far. The only thing that would make this better for me is getting a little bit more in-depth knowledge of how the magic works.
I just found my new book to talk peoples ears off about! I could not put this book down and have told all of my friends to get a copy to read. I can't wait for the rest of the series!!! It was a fun refreshing take on magic and creatures. The characters are so captivating. I am glad to see a magic related series that is more female based and has more of the "Supernatural" feel to it.
I have been a fan of Thomas K. Carpenter for a while now, but this book is my favorite so far! Keep them coming!
I am a huge fan of Thomas Carpenter and reading this book kept me engaged till the very end. Can't wait to read the next one in the series
This is the second or third time I've read this book. I've seen a review that classifies this book as YA, if that's the case then other so called YA writers should read this book to get a clue! You don't have to use Malopropism to write good books for the young!
Well created fantasy realm with believable characters. Multiple running storylines hold your attention making it almost impossible to set down. Definitely a page turner! Loved the depth of characters.
I really enjoyed the first three books and plan to buy the other two. I love the fact that it's two teenage sister on their own and their relationship with each other as they try to get into the Hundred Halls of magic academy. The development between the sisters and their interaction and struggles to learn what happened with the mysterious death of their parents keep the story moving and that's just the beginning. Its quite a journey and I love the adventure they are on. If you want a good set of fantasy books that's teen related and fun to read you'll enjoy this set.
However, I like books with magic. Our two characters are sisters, both with distinct stories which is a plus. There are side characters that border between sinister and just doing their jobs. We have actual demons which may turn a few readers off but lets face it, this is a darker world than Harry Potter. Everything has adapted to magic, demons, spells, schools that teach magic etc. But we still have cell phones and computers. Its a fun setting.
